3RD KAUNAS INTERNATIONAL PRINTMAKING BIENNIAL 2019

The 1st Printmaking Biennial “Culture Line”, held in 2015, aroused a wide public interest. It was the first exhibition of printmaking art in Kaunas of an international scale with the exposition, presented in the two biggest exhibition areas in town. It was accompanied by a number of positive reviews in the press and the internet websites, as well as a comprehensive catalogue of artworks. More than 30 artists from Lithuania and the neighbouring countries supplied their works, performed in different classical techniques of printmaking art. Exhibitions later were also organized in Jonava and Šiauliai, with seminars and workshops taking place simultaneously.
The 2nd biennial “Fragment Evolution” continued the tradition and became an important event in the world of Lithuanian art as a new creative impulse for printmaking artists. It was supposed to activate creative initiatives and cherish the traditions of printmaking art in this country introducing new technologies, used in contemporary graphic art, and providing the visitors with an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest tendencies in this branch of art worldwide.
3rd Kaunas International Printmaking Biennial “Beauty” returns to the ambition to present works done with classical printmaking techniques. Artists are asked to reveal to the viewer that beauty is multifaceted, thoughtful and not always in the plain form that we usually understand. The purpose of the Biennial is to reveal the positive side of art, to encourage every participant of the exhibition to reflect on his/her point of view and to interpret the term so that it does not stray to the primitive perception of this word. All educational programmes of the present project will be dedicated to the youngest generation – children and teenagers in particular, who are not necessarily studying art. It might as well be their first interactive meeting with graphic art in exhibition halls. All the artworks, selected for the Biennial, will be exhibited in National M.K. Čiurlionis Fine Art Museum M. Žilinskas Art Gallery and a few other exposition halls in Kaunas. Later they will be taken to Šiauliai Art Gallery
